I came to Reiki after getting acupuncture for years and studying Chinese Five Elements in graduate school. I set an intention to learn an energy healing tool and didn’t feel ready to or interested in going to acupuncture school. So, I started looking into yoga teacher trainings and I found one that included Reiki attunement (level 1 through master). I signed up for a year-long training and I went into it hardly knowing what Reiki was. The Reiki 1 weekend was an amazingly powerful weekend of learning and feeling and it helped me learn to let go of wanting to control others, among many other gifts. The Reiki 2 weekend saved my life, and my marriage, and my parenting in a way that I will write more about in a future blog post. In the beginning, I had zero intention of teaching Reiki. Once I got further into it, the teaching naturally came as the next joyful step.
After teaching Reiki in single weekend formats, I now teach it much like I learned it, I teach Reiki 1, 2 and 3 in a 9-month program, in community, with weekly circles of trust, a monthly 1:1 Reiki session, and 4 weekends throughout the 9 months together- it is a transformational program- please join a Be Rooted Q+A session if you are interested in starting in September 2023.
I find that Reiki attracts people who feel that they have a natural healing touch as well as people who have no experience/awareness with this. In my experience, Reiki also attracts people who are energetically aware and are perhaps already in a healing profession and are wanting more. One of the beautiful things about Reiki is that it can attract not only people who don’t have experience with energy healing of any kind but it also can be a powerful supplement to other kinds of bodywork, there’s a fascinating attraction to Reiki and its transformative opening is available to everyone.
A lot of times people who take my class are at a point in life where they’re open to letting go of old stories or are in a transitional time and are ready for some kind of change. Most of my students report that they find clarity about life goals or path after their attunement. Reiki tends to broaden intuitive pathways and sensitivities to energy, it opens people up to their body’s power and ability to heal. Reiki attunement can support people in manifesting their heart’s desire and trusting life’s path. What I return to every time I speak about learning and teaching Reiki, is that it is very simple, yet so incredibly powerful and transformative.
The class itself is held in a space where people share their transformations and speak about where they are in life. In this place of non-judgment and support, some students move through deep emotions on an energetic level.
Reiki is useful for self care because it is something that can be done on the spot and in the moment. If I have a headache or my stomach is upset, I can use it as a meditative practice or if I wake up in the middle of the night with anxiety, I can do whole body self care and it can help me fall back to sleep. Reiki is always there, I don’t have to go to a class or have access to a recording, it’s just there. And that is incredibly powerful and useful as a mom, a wife, and a human in this world.
